In the year 2040, the Earth forces are working to develop a new transformable fighter to replace their aging
Valkyrie (Thunderbolt). Isamu Dyson is reassigned to New Edwards Test Center, on the planet Eden, as a test
pilot after proving to be a dangerous and somewhat reckless military pilot. On his arrival he reunties with some
old friends, awakening old memories and rekindling old rivalries. He is brought in to replace some bad test pilots,
some of them dead, for the YF-19 fighter craft. Soon after he arives he finds that his competition is Guld Goa
Boman, his old friend and he is the test pilot for the competing YF-21. The conflicting nature of Isamu Dyson and
Guld makes for some very exciting battles, not to mention some very fast and intense animation. We see this
conflict explode as they try to kill each other the first few times they go up. Another problem that he faces is the
arrival of Myung (producer of computer singer named Sharon Apple), the mutual ex-girlfriend of both pilots. She
seems to be the cause of their rivalries and current content towards each other.
Macross Plus has some incredible hand drawn animation mixed perfectly with Very good computer graphics. I am told that this series had one of the largest
production budget of almost any Anime at the time and it was actually put to good use. The computer graphics blend nicely and the animation is excellent,
especially in the fight scenes. The soundtrack for this series features a fully symphonic soundtrack by the Isreal Philharmonic Orchestra. It sounds really
good! Everything in this series works including the music, the intense action, and all the computer elements that come together in the series.
This is one the greatest visual marvels of all Anime and is a must see. I have seen this on tape and its on DVD to which I would love to see soon, there are 4
episodes and 2 DVD's with 2 on each. I think the movie version is on DVD as well and is just as good. but a lot of the series is cut from the shorter movie
version. I recomend seeing the series version over the movie just to see the other scenes. If you can only see the movie though, do not pass it up. You wont
see some of the character development od the series but it is still very good.
